Akiyoshido Cave is one of the largest limestone caves in Japan, located in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Here’s how you can get there:
🚅 From Tokyo or Osaka
- Take the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Shin-Yamaguchi Station.
・From Tokyo: About 5 hours
・From Osaka: About 2 hours - Transfer to a local bus bound for Akiyoshido (秋芳洞).
・The bus ride takes about 40–50 minutes.

🚌 The bus stop is located just outside Shin-Yamaguchi Station.
Get off at “Akiyoshido” bus stop. The cave entrance is a short walk from there.
🚗 By Car
From Shin-Yamaguchi Station, it takes about 40 minutes by car.
There is a parking area near the entrance of the cave.
There are a few parking lots near Akiyoshido Cave, but the city-run parking area is the most spacious and recommended.
Look for “Akiyoshido Daiichi (No.1)” or “Akiyoshido Daini (No.2)” parking lots.
Parking costs 500 yen per day.

- The cave stays cool year-round, around 17°C (62°F), so bring a light jacket.
- Akiyoshidai Plateau, right above the cave, is also worth visiting!
